Blog Prompt #10

The most important thing that I have learned in English 101 this semester is that high school English was nothing compared to college English. I have made a few changes in my writing technique this semester. I have started to actually take my time. I have also started to really think about what I wanted to write instead of just writing random stuff down. Another thing is that in high school, I never asked others students for help on my essays and this semester I have started to ask my alcoholic buddy, Christa, for some help. I have made these changes, because i really need and want to pass this class. In other classes the professors really did not care if all the grammar and punctuation was right, but in English it is a must. In high school, the essays were a lot easier to do and the were also a lot shorter in length. Hopefully, my next english class will be similar to this one.

Blog Prompt # 9

One of the sources i plan to use is about search engines. i hope to get information from it on how search engines came to be found and how they have progressed. An exampole of that type of source is: http://web.ebscohost.com/ehost/pdf?vid=9&hid=106&sid=52a55eab-ae12-4b40-aec2-af0c198871f2%40sessionmgr102. Another source will have information on getting information from books. Also, how that started and progressed. Another source will explain how people had to go to other people to get the infomation they needed.
Most, if not all, of my sources will be scholarly articles from either the library or google scholar.
These sources will help explain my thesis and the point, in which, i will be trying to make.

Blog Prompt # 7

Everyone has them nowadays. They can be found at home, at the airport, in a car, even outside. What are they, you ask? Portable music players, such as, CD players, MP3’s, and Ipods. They have grown in quantity and in gigs. They can now have pictures, lyrics, games, Internet. There are different types of accessories. Such as covers, speakers, and headphones. It would seem like everyone has one. Walking down the street or down a school hallway, people have the headphone buds stuck in their ears. The community is affected by this new piece of technology. This subject is important, because music players are vastly found and affect everyone, in one way or another. The subject of if it connects people to others is arguable. Some will say that it brings people together through music, while others say that having the headphones in makes them unapproachable. The music players make people have more things to converse about, which leads to them connecting.

The research that will be used will mostly be observational. There will also be research on the background of music players and the way they have grown. I hope to find articles about how music players connect or disconnect them from others. Also on how a music player can affect the person’s mood.

Portable music players have made a huge impact on society. They started from tapes, to CD players, to MP3 players and Ipods. They have become a trend to have and it is rare to find someone without one. A song on a music player can start of a conversation. It connects people who have the same taste in music and sometimes people who have different.

Blog Prompt #6

Technology affects everyone in different ways. Some in good ways and others in bad ways. Technology has brought cures for different kinds of diseases. It also has made communication a whole lot easier. For instance, earlier on people had to send letters that would take days and sometimes weeks to get to the other person. Now we can call people, send texts, or e-mail them. it is a whole lot faster and more efficient. Technology can bring people together as well as tear them apart. For instance, people can get together through a phone call, but also they can separate through a text. Sometimes technology can hinder relationships. A couple could be in the middle of an argument on the phone and the call could be loss. They could think that the other hung up on them and get madder at him or her.

Cover Letter Draft

Dear Professor Fornes:

In this class there has been some ups and some downs dealing with the class in general and my writing. I guess it is the same for all the other students as well. I would like to think that I am improving. Improving is an important thing for me, because I really need to pass this class with a "C" or better. I will know if I have improved at the end of the semester if the grade is what I need and want it to be.

I came into this class worried, because I knew I had some weaknesses that would affect my grade. Granted, I do have some strengths as well. I do well with grammer and mechanics. I, however, have lots of trouble getting information to put into the essays. My essays always seem to come up short in the lenght department.

Every essay that I have to do, that is not just research, comes up short. Sometimes it is drastically short and sometimes I am only missing a few words. I can never seem to figure out what else to put into the essay to make it longer. I have tried putting in specific details, but it still does not come out to be enough. On my first essay dealing with Facebook, my essay was about four hundred words too short. I am pretty sure that my second essay is roughly that short as well.

Knowing that my essays are so short, I need to do something about it if I want to improve. I, somehow, need to find a way to add more words. I can try and add a great deal more detail into the essay. I can also put in my own personal opinion. I may also broaden some ideas or add in a few more to lenghten it.

I know that writing is very important now and later in life. Now, because I need it to get the grades that I want. Later, because my career will require it. As a crime scene investigator, I will need to know how to write down evidence and know hoe to write crime reports. If I do not know how to write correctly I will not suceed in life as a whole.

I plan to try my best in the future on my essays. That is really all I can do. I will try to put more effort into it. Also, hopefully, I will lengthen my essays. By lengthening them, they might even become better as a whole. I really hope to make them better and longer.

Sincerely,

Heather Spivey
